About the museum
The building is originally a merchant's farm built by Jørgen Chrystie in 1761. Three rooms in the stately farm have been restored to their original style, with contemporary interiors.
The museums main exhibition portrays the life of sea hero Cort Adeler. You can also learn about the occupation history that tells about how World War II started and developed, about acts of war, resistance work and everyday life. Including many concrete events that took place in Grenland. The exhibition is rich in pictures and authentic objects. The city museum also includes an old post office, shop and pharmacy.
The museum shop offers a selection of local historical literature, postcards from old Brevik and handicraft products. A visit to the museum can be combined with a city walk in idyllic old Brevik, one of Norway's best-preserved wooden house town from the golden Age of Sail.
