The two lighthouses located in the middle of Jomfruland are well-known landmarks. The old lighthouse was lit for the first time in 1839. Since then, it has been the first to meet for ships making their way into Kragerø. It is 22 m high and built of brick (approximately 250.000 bricks!). In 1874, it was equipped with a foghorn with trumpet, the first mechanical foghorn in Norway.
Panorama view and museum
It's very much worth to visit the old lighthouse. You can get a fantastic panorama view over the other islands and the open sea from its top. It also runs a museum, which exhibits many old and large maritime objects, as well as a special collection of old boat motors.
The new lighthouse was built 100 years later. It is 37 m high and built of iron. It was automated in 1991.
