About

At Heddal Open-air Museum, you walk straight into 19th century peasant life, and are warmly welcomed by both farm animals, the crofter and the farmer himself. Welcome to a day at the farm – and a piece of Norwegian history at its most idyllic.

You can experience the following at Heddal open air museum during summer

At Heddal open air museum you will also see how Norwegian houses have changed over time. Here there are 15 buildings from the Middle Ages until 1930.

The activities and entrance to houses and exhibitions are included in the entrance ticket.

Rich cultural heritage that sits in the walls. And permeates the soul.
Olav Hanssen's magnificent decorative rose-painting can be seen in the “Rambergstugo”. It was painted in 1784 and is often referred to as some of the most beautiful decorative paintings found in Norway. Stop by and see a real piece of Norwegian history with your own eyes.

Exhibition about Anne Bamle
Anne Bamle has a permanent exhibition in the yard with both national costumes and a tableau about Bamle's life. In her time, Bamle developed the East Telemark national costume. A total of 7 of Anne Bamle national costumes are exhibited at Heddal Bygdetun and two of these are over 100 years old.
