Ibsenhuset is Telemark county's largest cultural center. Throughout the year, a diverse and exciting cultural program is offered – ranging from international stars to local performers gracing our stages. The venue also serves as a professional and functional center for courses, conferences, fairs, meetings, social events, and more.
Ibsenhuset is centrally located in the city center and, with its eight halls, offers a variety of uses. Skien Art Association maintains a permanent exhibition in the foyer throughout the year, supplemented by frequent solo and group exhibitions.
Restaurant Henrik & Kompani
The cultural center also houses a restaurant, Henrik & Kompani, a contemporary dining establishment offering culinary delights for the palate. The restaurant has a full liquor license and a menu that includes both à la carte and daily specialties, tempting patrons with exquisite lunches and dinners.
Conference Facilities
Ibsenhuset provides flexible meeting rooms for both small and large events, ranging from small meetings to large congresses.
Ibsenhuset is wheelchair accessible
The venue is well-equipped for wheelchair users, featuring excellent facilities and accessibility solutions.
How Ibsenhuset came to be
After World War II, the need for a new cultural center became increasingly urgent with each passing year, as did the need for a community hall. Therefore, plans for two separate buildings were merged into the desire for an all-activity house for Skien and the greater Grenland area. Thus, the plans for a cultural center were born. And the name naturally followed – it could be nothing other than Ibsenhuset.
