Over the years, Øystad has housed both people and animals, serving as a hub for the local community, offering everything from laundry services and stables to haircuts, crafts, and taxi services. Now, you have the opportunity to become part of this rich history and experience authentic village life at its best.
Enjoy the tranquility and calm that surround Øystad, while still being within walking distance of exciting experiences in the charming Folkestadbyen. The house has been newly restored and offers modern conveniences, including a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with toilet and shower, and a cozy living room where you can relax after a day of adventures.

Straume Cabin
Welcome to Straume Cabin – an authentic piece of history from the 1890s, now transformed into a charming accommodation by the riverside.
This charming cabin has a rich history, originally owned by a postal driver who daily traversed the landscape with mail by horse and carriage to Bandaksli. Now, this historic site has been converted into a cozy accommodation perfect for a whole family, allowing you to experience the charm of village life up close.
With comfortable, custom-built beds and a cozy living area, you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere while taking in the whispers of history. The simple kitchenette makes it easy to prepare meals you’ve brought with you.
On the first floor, you will find a new, modern bathroom with a toilet and shower, providing the extra comfort you need during your stay.

The Bakery
Welcome to The Bakery – a charming piece of history that offers you a unique experience of authentic village life at Folkestadbyen.
Built in 1895 to meet the growing demand for bread among workers and locals alike, The Bakery has been a central landmark over the years. The first floor housed a busy bakery and a wagon shed, while the second floor was home to an apartment that kept the bakery running until the 1960s.
Today, we have restored the second-floor apartment to reflect the charming atmosphere of the 1880s, complete with authentic colors and furniture. Here, you'll find two inviting bedrooms separated by a cozy living area, as well as a small museum displaying old artifacts and telling stories from the past.
For those who prefer to prepare their own meals, the small but well-equipped kitchen on the first floor has everything you need to cook your own dishes. Alternatively, you are welcome to explore the many fine dining spots just around the corner, where you can enjoy local delicacies and a cozy atmosphere.
The toilet is located in the charming outbuilding below The Bakery, while the steps and seating areas outside invite you to enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the rhythm of village life.

Ruslebu Cabin
Welcome to Ruslebu – a unique and charming cabin on wheels located in the historic area of Øyfoss sawmill, which once was the heart of Folkestadbyen’s founding.
With red-painted walls and an inviting atmosphere, Ruslebu is a cozy accommodation, perfect for a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat for one person or a couple. This small timber cabin is inspired by the history of sawmills and the tradition of relocating buildings to Folkestadbyen – though Ruslebu was only placed here in 2023.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a daybed that easily pulls out into a double bed, a small dining table for two, and fully equipped facilities like a gas stove, wood stove, and sink – all in a tiny house style.
On the cozy terrace outside, you can enjoy your morning coffee while soaking in the atmosphere and life of Folkestadbyen and Skippergata, and let the evening sun warm you as you reflect on the day’s experiences.
