Hamaren – The Activity Park for Everyone
At Hamaren you will find "Norway's first treetop walk" which is universally designed so that all types of user groups can experience this spectacular attraction. The Treetop Walk was designed by the Danish architectural firm EFFEKT. The Hamaren Activity Park has won several national and international awards for its unique concept, architecture, and universal accessibility. The universally accesible walk around the park including the Treetop Walk is approximately 3.5 kilometers long and takes about 1.5 hours. The highest point of the tour is Klokkarhamaren (343 meters above sea level), which offers a beautiful view over lake Fyresvatn, Norway's sixth deepest lake. There are three entrances to Hamaren, and you are free to plan your own route according to your wishes and needs. If you want to take a round trip that ensures you see all the attractions within the park including the Treetop Walk, and Folkestadbyen, you can follow the DNT route starting from the parking lot at the Fyresdal Community House.
Children's Activity Park
The Hamaren Activity Park offers many exciting experiences and activities for children. Here you can jump on a treetop trampoline mounted in the pine trees, 3 meters above the ground. The trampoline is 5 x 5 meters in size and has high safety nets that make it completely safe to play at height. In addition, the trampoline is perfect for overnight stays. You can also try Hamaren's own climbing course, provided by Høyt og Lavt. The course is designed so that you can balance, climb nets, and use a zipline, all without safety equipment. This is a very popular activity in the park. At Hamaren, you can take the children on a beautiful nature trail where you learn a lot about the animal and plant species in the area, various types of trees, as well as stories and adventures. Along the way, you will discover the Bear and the Fox, two sculptures made of steel and wood by Valebjørg Design, which children can climb and slide on.
Cycling and Water Activities
Cycling is not allowed on the Treetop Walk itself, but everywhere else in the Hamaren Activity Park. There is a great bike trail designed by French Bike Solutions. This trail has one driving direction, so it is important that everyone follows the signage to avoid dangerous situations. "Riksveg355" is suitable for everyone and is graded as a blue trail. There is also a detour from the blue trail called "TeleHivi," graded as a red trail. This offers greater challenges and is recommended for more experienced trail cyclists. In the area around Hamaren Activity Park, you will find many nice swimming spots, ranging from white sandy beaches to rocks and cliffs. In addition, there is a large water trampoline at the pier near Fyresdal Business Park.
From June 20th, Fyresdal Municipality offers free rental of SUP boards, canoes, hammocks and rowboats. Booking equipment and picking up keys are at the tourist information in the Fyresdal Business Park (address Klokkehamaren 6), phone +47 47 65 84 50.
Barbecuing and Overnight Stays at Hamaren
At Hamaren and along the Treetop Walk, you will find many great picnic areas with benches and tables where you can take a well-deserved break or enjoy your packed lunch. There are several designated bonfire sites and a grill hut at the northern end of the activity park, where keys can be borrowed from the tourist information. Remember the national fire ban from April 15 to September 15. It is only allowed to light fires at approved bonfire and grill sites, but follow the municipality's guidelines. Near the entrance to the Treetop Walk, you will find a very suitable outdoor kitchen under a roof with a gas stove (keys for the gas cylinder can be picked up at the tourist information) and a wood-fired oven that can be used by everyone.
You are also welcome to stay overnight at Hamaren, which will give you a unique outdoor experience. The area outside the trails is hilly, so it is not suitable for tents. However, there are many beautiful pine trees at Hamaren that are perfect for hammocks, or you can stay in the shelter at the top of Klokkarhamaren (343 meters above sea level) and enjoy the view of lake Fyresvatn. If you still wish to use a tent, it is possible to set it up at Fyresdal Course and Camping Center, which offers self-service camping. This also includes electricity and showers.
