Trail Details
Total length: 10 km
Elevation gain: 590 m
Terrain: Challenging, with steep ascent

Roan is Fyresdal's second-highest peak at 1191 meters above sea level. From the summit, enjoy a splendid panoramic view of Telemark's mountainous landscape. On clear days, gaze from Bykleheiane and Haukeli in the northwest to the southern parts of Hardangervidda towards Gaustatoppen (1883 m) and further eastward to Lifjell and nearby mountain areas. An informative board displays peaks from northwest to south, including Gaustatoppen and Lifjell.

Location and Access
To reach the trailhead, take off from FV 355 in Hauggrend towards Foldsæ and follow signs further to Roan. Note there is a toll. After 4.5 km, follow the signed forest road until you reach the parking area just before the trailhead.

Starting the Hike to Roan Summit
From the information board at the parking lot, follow the road about 50 meters before turning right into the forest and crossing the river. The initial part of the trail takes you through pine forest, then through mountain birch forest, and finally up to the bare mountain leading to the summit of Roan.

Panoramic Views from Roan Summit
Roan's summit rewards you with a magnificent panoramic view extending from Haukeli in the northwest to the southern parts of Hardangervidda towards Gaustatoppen (1883 m) and further eastward to Lifjell.

Return to Røyningdalen
To return, follow the same trail back to Røyningdalen. Remember to sign the book to mark your experience on Roan.

Sustainable hiking
When traversing nature, it's crucial to practice responsible conduct to preserve and respect the natural environment. This includes sticking to marked trails to avoid harming ecosystems, carrying out your waste, and respecting local rules and restrictions. Avoid disturbing wildlife and be mindful of any special considerations in protected areas. By being responsible in your outdoor activities, you contribute to maintaining the beauty and sustainability of nature for future generations to enjoy.
