Nutheim Gjestgiveri

Nutheim Gjestgiveri is a small family-run wooden hotel in Telemark. The hotel has been in the family since 1917 and is still operational as of this day.
Dyrsku´n
Dyrsku'n in Seljord is one of Norway's largest agricultural fairs and folk festivals, held annually in Seljord, Telemark. Here, people gather to experience everything from livestock and agricultural equipment exhibitions to crafts, food traditions, and cultural activities.
The Sea Serpent Tower

The tale of the serpent in the seljord Lake have been told since 1750 and have been passed down in spoken form, being only partly written down. You can look for the serpent from the sea serpent tower on Bjørgeøyan.

The trio from People of the North, Arne Hjeltnes, Frida Ronge, and Stig Bareksten, find themselves in Seljord. Frida plans to surprise her friends with a fantastic dish based on delicious ingredients from Telemark. At Dyrsku'n, Norway's largest trade and agricultural fair, she meets interesting people who introduce her to new flavors. Dyrsku'n has been held annually since 1866. Originally, it started as a marketplace for the sale of livestock but has evolved into a large folk festival that attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. This is certainly a major event in Telemark and one you don’t want to miss.

Discover the Mystery of the Sea Serpent in Lake Seljord

At the end of Lake Seljord, you’ll find the Sea Serpent Tower, a 17-meter-high tower that gives you the chance to spot the legendary sea serpent with your own eyes. For over 300 years, there have been reports of sightings of this mythical creature, said to be hiding in this lake. Even dedicated sea serpent hunters have tried to solve this mystery, but so far, no documented evidence has been found. A trip up the tower will still provide you with a magical memory for life.

Art and Culture in Seljord
In addition to the good preservation of the cultural landscape, especially in Flatdal, Svartdal, and Åmotsdal, Seljord municipality is known for it´s long tradition of art and culture. Some of the best within folk music and folk dance have roots form Seljord, and there is still an active community in the municipality.

Telespinn is a small environmental friendly yarn factory with sale on the farm Midt-Svartdal in Seljord, heart of Telemark. We produce our own yarn and accept wool for spinning on order. We like to use natural resouces and keep the cultural landscape in check. Come visit us and experience the cooperation between man and animal. We are also applicable for groups for lectures and guiding.

Stig and Frida check into the artist's hotel, Nutheim Gjestgiveri in Flatdal. This has been a meeting place for artists, writers, and nature lovers for over 100 years and is part of Mythical Telemark. They are captivated by the special atmosphere, the beautiful original artworks on the walls, the delicious homemade food, and the spectacular view of Flatdal. Nutheim Gjestgiveri offers art exhibitions, concerts, and cultural events, making it a vibrant cultural center.

The journey continues to Telespinn, where they transform wool from mohair goats into exclusive, handmade yarn products of high quality. The spinning mill is located on the beautiful Midt-Svartdal farm, an area known for its valuable cultural landscape and unique biodiversity. Here, they meet the beautiful mohair goats that provide the soft and luxurious fiber, and get a unique tour of the mill, where they see the entire process from raw wool to finished yarn.

In the farm shop, you can buy beautiful, handspun yarns, lovely knitted garments, and other unique textile products. Telespinn offers a glimpse of tradition, sustainability, and creativity.

Explore Seljord

Thing do do
Seljord is a municipality in the heart of Telemark. Seljord’s center is located between the base of Skorve Mountain (1,370 meters above sea level) and Lake Seljord, home to the famous sea serpent. This makes Seljord a fantastic starting point if you wish to vacation in Upper Telemark. In the summer, you can swim at beautiful beaches, hike and bike, and everything is within a short distance.
