Lovisenberg and Valberg are two places on the peninsula Langtangen located not far from Kragerø downtown. North of Langtangen is the 4 km long Helle Fjord. On the way to Lovisenberg you´ll pass Berg-Kragerø Museum that´s located at the former resident of the rich Homan family. Visit the exhibition about Edvard Munch and Kragerø, put yourself in Kragerøs past as a great ice trader and get better known with Kragerøs coastal culture. Get fascinated by the charming manor house from 1803 and the other historic buildings and admire this year's main exhibition "Peoples work/jobs in Kragerø in the past and present".
The idyllic place "Bergneset" with its familyfriendly beach is just around the corner. You can park at the Berg-Kragerø museum or follow the road down to the swimming area. It´s also facilitated for wheelchair users. By following the path along the Helle Fjord you will also find nice little swimming areas where you can be completely by yourself.
The campsite Lovisenberg Familiecamping extends over an area of approximately 220 acres. Here you will find a heated saltwater pool that is 50 meters long, a beautiful sandy beach and playground for children. In July the express-boat "Perlen" will traffic the stretch Kragerø - Lovisenberg Family Camping!
The landscape of Langtangen peninsula is very popular for hiking due to its many trails and viewingpoints as Lovisenbergkollen (186 m) and Bjørneknuten (150 m). The trail begins at the old house above the lake Valbergtjenna on Lovisenberg. You can park either at Berg-Kragerø Museum or where the road goes down to Valbergtjenna at Valbergveien.
Valbergtjenna is a man-made pond that was built around 1850 to be used for export of ice and it is a great place to start your trip. In winter the lake is used for ice skating.
If you follow the road Valbergveien you´ll come to the Valberg quarry.
