About

In 2017, some ambitious women started the company Smylefår, focusing on the sale of local, pure, and sustainable lamb and sheep meat. Janne and Guro, who now run Smylefår, each manage their own farm in Fyresdal municipality, where lambs and sheep graze on the scenic hills of Telemark. At Smylefår, we are proud to offer high-quality minced meat, fårikål (a traditional Norwegian mutton and cabbage dish), and various cuts of meat, known for their natural and excellent taste. Additionally, we sell beautiful sheepskins. The animals are slaughtered and packaged at Nortura, a cooperative owned by about 16,000 Norwegian farmers working to support agriculture throughout Norway.

Availability
Smylefår is available from August to October at the local store in Fyresdal or via phone orders. The lamb and sheep products are seasonal because the slaughtering period follows the animals' natural life cycle and grazing patterns for optimal meat quality. Outside of this main season, the stock is very limited, but Smylefår may have some meat products available from other slaughter periods. For example, "empty" animals that have not become pregnant and are therefore slaughtered in the new year. The sheepskins will be available all year round.
