Langøya is a flat island located at the coast at Langesund in Bamble. It is 2.9 km long from north to south. In 1947, the beautiful island was given as a testamentary gift and nature park to the population of Bamble by Lorenz Severin Schougaard. Today, it is protected as a landscape conservation area due to its fascinating flora, which includes several rare species.
The island offers many recreational opportunities. For example, there is a dedicated field for playing football, numerous beautiful bathing spots for swimming, and plenty of fishing spots to try your luck.
The coastal trail on the island is designed as a circular route of 4.5 km. It is easy to walk and is part of the Coastal path in Bamble. You can take some detours from the coastal trail, such as visiting Langøytangen lighthouse at the southern tip of the island, enjoying a swim at the beach in the northwest, and exploring Lilløy island to the east.
Langøytangen lighthouse is located at the very southern end of the island, and there, the Langesundsfjorden Coastal Association rents out the lighthouse keeper's residence for overnight stays. The season starts shortly after Easter and lasts until October.
