An Adventure in the Forest
The old barn from 1805, which houses, among other things, Hillestad Gallery, was renovated in 2024 and has become a center for Destination Hillestad. At this exciting gallery, with a unique, fully Norwegian character, you can enjoy and purchase beautiful art and crafts, eat homemade food, check in at Hillestad Holiday Center, or get great hiking tips.
We have a good selection of crafts and graphics from skilled artists. The entire range of Hillestad jewelry is displayed and for sale here. In Kramløa in the basement, we also offer interior products from Broste Copenhagen and textiles from Ekelund.
Every day we are open, we serve homemade pretzels and rolls, hearty meat soup, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, mineral water, and ice cream. We also have gluten-free and vegetarian options. Everything is homemade and locally sourced.
Hillestad Gallery has seating for 80 people. Contact us for parties, events, and catering.
At the gallery, you can take a walk on the art trail. Both close to the gallery and nearby, there are small and large artworks installed in nature. Outside the gallery is a playground for children of all ages, featuring slides, towers, underground tunnels, and a grill area that everyone can use.
Fishing spots are marked along the entire river in the valley.
There are 20 designated summer hiking trails in Åmli municipality, six of which start in Tovdal.
Not far from the gallery is Hillestad Holiday Center. It offers rental cabins with a swimming pool and high standards near Tveitvannet, and on Hillestadheia, we also have rental cabins of high quality. Booking.hillestad.no
In winter, up to 30 km of ski trails are groomed on Hillestadheia, not far from the gallery. Tovdal and Åmli are thus an excellent place to combine art, culture, play, and nature.
See the website for updated opening hours: hillestad.no or follow us on FB Hillestad Gallery.
From January until the winter holidays, the gallery is closed.
