Strømtangen fyr is one of three lighthouses in Kragerø and lies between Rapen and Skjørsvik. The other two lighthouses are Jomfruland and Stavseng.
Stavseng (at the westside on the island Skåtøy) and Strømtangen fyr were finished and lit on 22 October 1874, they depend on each other! When you´re in a boat located at sea in such a position that you´ll see the two lighthouses as one, then you are in the lane and can go straight into it.
It was the Kragerø seafaring association which took the initative to establish these two lighthouses in 1866. The first lighthouse keeper on Strømstangen was O.F. Jahnsen, he was 36 years old when he arrived with his wife Birgitte. He worked as the lighthouskeeper at Strømstangen for 44 years.
After him there were several keepers, from 1918-1925 it was Ole Olausen, next was Just Henriksen, Hans Wraamann and 1942 Joachim Andersen. The Strømtangen lighthouse was automated and depopulated in 1962.
The trail down to the lighthouse goes on smooth polished rocks with solid wrought iron fences, indicating that there may be harsh here.
