Ice Climbing Course for Beginners

The course is aimed at climbers who are already a competent belayer. You need to be able to safely belay on top rope.
You will learn all the basics of ice climbing, while climbing different frossen waterfalls in Rjukan. Each day we go to different locations.
We only climb short routes. Long routes and multi pitch belong to a more advanced course.

• Price: 420€ / 4800 nok per person.
All equipment is included.
I offer accommodation in my private house centrally located in Rjukan for 350 NOK per night.

The course starts Friday evening at 8:30 pm.
Elements covered during this course:
- Safety. Dangers related to ice climbing and cold temperatures.
- Assessment and understanding of weather and ice conditions, temperatures and ice quality.
- Climbing and movement technique.
- Basic principles for the placement of axes and crampons.
- Establishing top rope anchors for ice climbing using trees.
- Rope team routines and communication.
- Choosing your path in waterfall ice.
- Assessment of ice along the way.
- Placing ice screws on lead.
- Lead with top rope backup
- Abalakov anchor / V-anchor.
- Return and abseil/rappell
- Equipment (and what is best to buy).

After the course, you should be competent and confident enough to go ice climbing together with climbing partners with the same experience and knowledge.
